Asia’s top food and beverage trade fair adds fresh categories as Hong Kong cements its role as a global food hub

Hong Kong Prepares for Major Food and Beverage Trade Event

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council has confirmed that the 2026 editions of Food Expo PRO and the Hong Kong International Tea Fair will take place from August 13 to 15 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The announcement signals the continuation of an event that has become one of Asia’s most important gathering points for food and beverage professionals, and reflects Hong Kong’s sustained relevance as a commercial hub connecting global producers with buyers across the Chinese mainland and the broader Asian region. The 2025 edition of these concurrent fairs attracted approximately 18,500 buyers from 64 countries and regions, with participants ranging from importers and wholesalers to hotel groups, restaurant operators, and major retailers.

A New Meat Zone to Meet Rising Protein Demand

The most significant structural addition to the 2026 programme is the introduction of a dedicated Meat product zone at Food Expo PRO, designed to showcase the dynamic global meat sector and address rising demand for premium, diverse, and innovative protein offerings across the region. The zone will feature a wide range of products including chilled and frozen meats, processed meats, specialty items, and value-added solutions from both global and regional suppliers. Organisers have positioned the zone to connect exhibitors directly with professional buyers seeking opportunities in premium proteins, sustainable sourcing, and emerging market trends in the Greater Bay Area and across Asia. The Greater Bay Area, which encompasses Hong Kong, Macau, and nine cities in Guangdong Province with a combined population of approximately 90 million people, represents one of the largest concentrated consumer markets in the world and a primary target for food industry participants at the fair.

Halal, Coffee, and Food Science Zones Return

The 2026 fair will also see the continuation and expansion of zones introduced in recent years. The Halal food and beverage label, first introduced in 2024, had grown by 2025 to include more than 120 food suppliers showcasing certified products ranging from snacks and condiments to seafood. A dedicated seminar will address the regulatory and commercial dimensions of the Halal market, which is of growing importance to producers serving the Muslim consumer populations of Southeast Asia and the Middle East. The Food Science and Technology zone will again highlight alternative and future food innovations, from plant-based proteins to precision fermentation products. A Coffee zone will showcase coffee products, equipment, and accessories, with demonstrations and seminars covering the full coffee value chain.

The Tea Fair: Culture and Commerce

The concurrent Hong Kong International Tea Fair offers a different but complementary experience, blending high-level trade activity with public cultural programming. Building on the success of the 2025 edition’s business-to-consumer format, the 2026 Tea Fair will again be open to the public throughout all three days of the exhibition. The 2026 Hong Kong International Tea Culture Forum will provide an international platform for dialogue on tea culture and industry development. The China and Greater Bay Area KamCha Competition will hold its Hong Kong Final at the fair, celebrating the city’s iconic milk tea culture. Youth competitions and tea art performances will offer an immersive public experience alongside the professional trade sessions.

Hong Kong’s Enduring Role as Asia’s Food Gateway

The success of Food Expo PRO and the Tea Fair reflects something important about Hong Kong that often gets overshadowed by political news: the city’s commercial infrastructure, logistical expertise, and capacity for high-quality trade event organisation remain world-class. The Hong Kong Trade Development Council organises dozens of international trade fairs annually and has increasingly integrated its Click2Match online matching platform, which extends the networking benefits of physical attendance to participants who cannot travel to Hong Kong, running online sessions from August 6 to 22. For food and beverage companies seeking access to Asian markets, and for Asian buyers seeking global products, the August events remain an unparalleled opportunity. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has consistently highlighted Asia as the fastest-growing region for food trade and consumption, making Hong Kong’s position at the centre of that trade all the more strategically significant.
